AP US History

Course Goal
 
This course will give students a college-level experience examining the founding and
evolution of the American republic from Pre-European contact until our present day
society. The course will also provide students with the necessary skills to be
successful on the AP U.S. History Exam in May of 2018. Throughout the course,
students will engage in a variety of primary and secondary resources addressing the
political, cultural, economic, social, and diplomatic history of the United States.
Students will use these readings and critical thinking skills to effectively participate in
class discussions, debates, simulations. Students will also be frequently engaged in
critical writing during the construction of various document analysis papers; in
addition to developing and supporting thesis papers addressing different course
themes. The course will be divided into different time periods and selected themes
will be addressed and re-addressed throughout the different units. Selected
controversial issues will be examined with primary and secondary sources from a
multiple of perspectives.
