Statistics

Course Goal

Statistics is the mathematical science of learning from data. Statistics involves making a hypothesis, collecting data, organizing and analyzing collected data, and drawing conclusions based on the findings of data. Introduction to Statistics is a course that will reinforce skills needed in Statistics. Students will be introduced to statistical reasoning. Students will learn to identify the difference between categorical and quantitative variables, as well as, analyze both, categorical data and quantitative data. Students will be expected to design and conduct a study, by collecting information using one of the study types (survey, experiment, or observational study). Presenting the analysis and conclusion of statistical data is a very important aspect of this course.
Anti-Racism and Equality for All

Statistics is especially applicable to our everyday lives.
Statistics is repeatedly used when talking about and looking at graduation rates, voter
registration, gentrification, immigration status, health care disparities, LGBTQ rights,
police brutality, etc. Throughout this class we will examine, implement, and analyze
real-world data sets inclusive of current events, our families, cultures, and
communities.
