Science Department
Science courses are designed to help students understand the natural world and the processes that govern it. With an emphasis on problem solving and the ability to make predictions about the behavior of matter in the living and nonliving world, students challenge themselves and take ownership of their own growth.
2025-2026 Teachers: Daya Rosario, Hansel Mojica, Jose Reynoso, Kelsey Vinette, Diana Capuano. Emily Dufour

Life Science: Biology
At BASE, diverse learners will demonstrate understanding of the big ideas of Biology which include concepts on molecular, cellular, heredity, evolution, classification, organisms, populations, and ecosystems. Students will enhance their mastery of biological concepts, which will enable them to make real-world connections and apply their understanding to everyday life.
Earth & Space Sciences
A field of science exploring and investigating the processes of our planet and its role in our universe also focusing on the interactions of of our own Geosphere, Hydrosphere and Atmosphere.

Physical Setting: Chemistry
Through mastery grading techniques and reflection this course cover topics such as scientific methods, matter and atomic structure, energy, chemical bonds, molecular structure, chemical reactions, and quantitative relationships. The courses also emphasizes understanding major concepts rather than memorizing science facts, and they include process and laboratory skills.
Elective:
Forensics
Forensic science is the application of scientific methods to matters involving the public. One of its principle applications is the scientific analysis of physical evidence generated by criminal activity. During this course at BASE, diverse learners will learn & demonstrate basic techniques used to analyze forensic evidence.
